An AI detection experience to help users protect themselves from potentially harmful scareware and scam sites.

Project

Scareware blocker adds a new, first line of defense to help protect the users exposed to a new scam if it attempts to open a full screen page. Scareware blocker uses a machine learning model that runs on the local computer.

Scope

It was up to me to decide how we treat this AI blocking the users flow. I decided to treat it as an error page, so the user would take time to read it, and treat the concern seriously. We also wanted a way to dismiss the feature incase the site ran a false negative.

Scareware in the press

I am super excited to read about how scareware blocker is helping users on the ground and it has been covered in a few press releases since its launch. This has been a particuarly important feature for me, because it will help a lot of users who are vulnerable stay away from scams.
